Thank you for sharing your passion for Ozu - I had not heard of him before, but I have discovered many of his films are on (HBO) Max - added to my list!
Yes, I should have looked to see how to watch them before I did this. I have everything on Blu Ray or DVD (yes, I am still using Blue Rays and DVDs) but I also found many were on Max. (I hate that it's Max now, why? WHY? HBO is so much better and we all know it.)
Thank you for this beautiful and informative series!
I notice the photos do NOT have captions or anything, so I appreciate that you actually have so much so say about them for a most complete ignorant like me!
This field trip....terrific! I'll watch it more than once to retain the details of your wonderful commentary. I now have several Ozu films in the queue for my own little film fest! Thank you so much!
You did!? I'm going to call you today to talk about it. I bet you would love the Ozu movies. Also, with your visual sense you will be greatly rewarded with how Ozu shoots everything and what he places in the foreground and in the background. Let's talk later. xoxo
Thank you for the field trip, Julia! This post got lost in my emails, so I'm now caught up. And I, too, have many Ozu films in the queue! I marvel at your knowledge of his work--I also noticed that the photographs had no captions. Your excitement is infectious!

You're welcome! Thanks for watching. It's a fun dive, the Ozu dive into his work. So I encourage you to do it.

So glad you will watch. Don't feel bad if it isn't your thing, it's not many people's thing. But if it is you're thing, YAY! It will be a joy.
Loved it!
I just found out that Ozu was one of film critic Roger Ebert's favorite filmmakers, who described him as the most humanistic director of all time.
I think I knew that. But it also doesn't surprise me. And yes, Ozu is very humanistic.
Thank you, Julia, for your wonderful introduction to Ozu. Topped with the field trip to the exhibit!
Last night I watched Late Spring and loved it!

Thank you for sparking my curiosity for Ozu films, Julia!
You're welcome. Happy to do it!
Hil Julia - I'm Lisa Hazen's friend, Sarah Bowman @ReasonstoGather, and I thought of you today when I saw that the Academy is hosting an Ozu series in September this year! https://www.academymuseum.org/en/programs/series/yasujir-ozu-in-color-the-final-six-films
