"Older & Wider" is my latest show, which I filmed last spring. I made a little video explaining the one-person shows I've done over nearly 30 years to people who may not know about me.
Well, that was wonderful. I saw [actually, heard] the first two - which I loved and was just talking to friends about the other day - and your tweet alerted me to this post [honestly, I adore Twitter sometimes!] and the new show.
When my mom died I gained weight. I would pat my stomach, which reminded me of her [the stomach, not the patting! :-) ]. No deep analysis of why I gained the weight!
So, thanks. And, I doubt this is your last show....
Oh, Julia Sweeney, if you only knew how many times I've listened to Letting Go of God and the Jill & Julia Show, you'd probably have a retraining order against me. I can't wait to see Older & Wider, and I hope there are plenty of future projects to come, because you are truly one of the greatest storytellers. I'm excited to see more Substack entries!
I'm eager to get my hands on Older and Wider! I have the first two shows already. I love to watch Letting Go of God. Although my experience was going from Evangelicalism to atheism, rather than from Catholicism, I shared many of your thought processes. The entire 2+ hours is absolutely brilliant! And hilarious! Thank you!
I'm so excited for this! Will there be a CD/audio version? I listen to all your audio shows a few times a year. I even have "In the Family Way"! I also was fortunate enough to see you live in LA for "Letting Go of God" and much later when you were workshoping, "I, As Well" (which I figure never fully developed into a show). Your work is so funny and poignant. Chalk me up to LGOG being a huge influence on both me and my husband in solidifying our atheism. Big fan, and thanks for all you do!
Where can we watch 'Older and Wider'? I'm enjoying the Vimeopro version from 2019, but can't wait to see the film you've shown us the trailer for...your work is an inspiration and you are a great gift, especially for old birds like me (60!).
I recommend all your shows to friends and family because you represent me in so many ways. You have helped me explaine my stance about being an atheist in such a wonderful way, Julia. I’ve taken many family members to your shows and they all say the same thing, “Wow, I get it now.” Please don’t stop giving us your comedy and knowledge. I don’t want “Older and Wider” to be the last. Perhaps consider doing a show entitle “Retiirement is for Cars Only.”
Amy, I am so happy that my show meant so much to you. I really think if I did one good thing it was writing and performing Letting Go of God. It feels great to get your comment. Now it's been so many years since I left God, it's hard to imagine when I took God seriously. Everyone who does take God seriously, well, I must admit I approach them suspiciously. I know some are good and even smart, but it's hard to believe they believe. In any case, thank you so much for your comment, it really made my day.
The two earlier shows meant so much to me when I first heard them and I can't wait to see the new one. Thank you for sharing these :)

It’s great to see these 3 previews all together!

You are totally charming. Bet this show is great, like the others.

Love this update of your life. I will be on the lookout for Older and Wider.
Somehow I haven’t seen the 2nd one. So now I will :)
