This mirrors my experience eating keto low-carb. I consume more healthy fats, such as sardines, avocado, salmon, and high quality butter from grass-fed cows. This has resulted in weight loss and has reduced inflammation and back pain, while significantly lowering my A1c level. I sleep better, have more energy, and generally feel more clear headed.

Yes! Exactly. All of this.

I’m doing something similar (BLE). Or, I intend to, but I’m struggling to go all in.

PS - it was the food changes making you sad. The fat cells get smaller by dumping their toxins. It sucks.

Love every inch (sentence) of this. And can confirm, (well, the 15 pounds that fell off of me could) every bit of it.

But particular glee goes out towards:

“This was an important part of my journey. (Oh god, I hate that last sentence. It’s quite insipid.  But, no other will suffice.)”

If I was/were (?) queen of the universe and could obliterate forever -- one word -- from human consciousness it would be:

JOURNEY.

Another great column, with much to think about. And I think "journey" is a great way to describe the often circuitous roads of discovery that each one of us is on. I also think more women than men have an intimate relationship with food, body image, satiety (great word), etc, etc, than men can ever understand. It's so complex! But to grab onto a feeling of peace over one's relationship to food, and/or body image is a huge accomplishment! May we all get there in our lifetimes! Thanks, Julia! 😊

I've been following Keto for about 4 years, you describe the journey perfectly! I'm going to have several of my friends read this, it's been hard at times, no matter how I describe my journey they don't understand how I can eat so much fat and it's OK. I've been a type 2 diabetic for over 20 years and finally my A1C is the best it's ever been!

Oh my! I've been on a similar journey the past seven months or so, and it has turned my life around. Your description of being hungry or full is still something I am working through, but sometimes a glass of water or tea calms it down. I started with a group program from the perspective of addressing food combinations and sensitivities that work with our body, but I think the intentions are the same. Learn to listen to your body, what sugar does to it and how it makes you feel. I also upped the fat intake, which takes a minute to wrap your head around but really does make you feel sated. This is the first time in decade's I've felt reasonably comfortable in my body both physically and mentally. My eating came from place of rebellion rather than dieting (you can't tell me what to do/eat) and I also feel sadness these days, but with no excuses left and the clock ticking, this is my new way through.

I'm curious about the white rice attachment , since I love it with all my heart, but know I eat too much of it. What do you use to soak up your curry now?

Are you aware of or have you read: Fast. Feast. Repeat.: The Comprehensive Guide to Delay, Don't Deny Intermittent Fasting?* If so what do you think? Would you recommend it?

I have been on a similar path. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to reading more on this that you said you were going to write about later.

Hi Julia. The way you're eating now is how I turned my health around. Losing weight was a nice side effect. But, most importantly, I've never felt better. When I used to start my day with bran cereal and fruit I would be constantly hungry and dizzy. Now that I start with eggs and avocado, I could go until dinner without eating.

Some of my family members turned around pre diabetes and lowered blood pressure after dumping sugar and carbs. I got rid of migraine headaches.

I'm happy to hear you're feeling positive health benefits, too.

PS I had fun talking (well, I blathered like an idiot) to you at my book launch in 2019. You came with Moon Z, who read her amazing piece.

I'm happy to have found you here.
