i didn't know anything about the la brea tar pits. memento mori! have lived in SF for decades but i barely know LA at all, really enjoying your tours last week & this week.
I'm going to watch it again, this time with my husband. I can't stop thinking about it and looking up various scientists and finding out when they died. I guess it too Oppenheimer the movie to get me to watch the documentary, but the documentary is much better than the movie.
Enjoyed getting to see the famous tar pit. But I wonder how many children have been haunted by that distressing mammoth family tableau! I didn't realize the pit looked so much like a watering hole; no wonder they got stuck.
I am a stoic! I do try to be, anyway. Finding Stoicism was what I was looking for when I stopped believing in God. I didn't realize it for a few years, I just thought rejecting religion was going all the way. But then I discovered Stoicism and came to the surprising realization that I never was really looking for a God to begin with, and rejecting the idea of a God didn't satisfy my need. I was looking for a guide for morality and behavior that I could fully embrace! I have to get back to all my stoic books. I used to read something daily but have gotten out of the habit.
Have to hit La Brea soon. Can't wait for the Hartman tribute.
Would there be any way to get you do a video for my "Flip Your Wig For WGA/SAG AFTRA" PSA that I'm trying to do for the Emergency funds for both guilds? Not to mention all the hair/wig stylists that are out of work.
Thank you for visiting the TAR pits. Brought back memories. Hey, Julia, do you remember my presentation called "Saving Ourselves from the TAR Pits of Society?" I used "TAR" as an acronym for "Tradition," "Authority," and "Revelation." I was thrilled to see you in the audience that day. Wish I could attend the Groundlings event, but I'll be at DragonCon organizing the Skeptics parade entry and presenting "What is a Street Pirate." Will watch the movie you recommended. You never steer us wrong. I'm sure you will find the humor of doing "hard things." Accounting is the worse!!!!
Margaret! I don't remember that but I like what you described. That's a good acronym for Tradition, Authority, and Revelation. HA! Tar Pits of Society. I really like that. I love that you'll be at DragonCon. And I can't wait for you to tell me what a Street Pirate is. xoxo
It's fun to think about and muse over different things to say. Mel Blanc, who was the famous WB voice over guy, has "That's All Folks!" on his grave at Forever Cemetery here in Los Angeles. I had someone show me a picture of Jack Lemmon's headstone, also here in L.A. that says "Jack Lemmon In..." (the ground!) HAHAHA. I thought that was a great one.
Kevin Nealon is at the Spokane Comedy Club 9/1-9/2!
Oh wow! I'll bring Spokane up when I see him.
Mental note to hit the La Brea tar pits soon. Thank you for the reminder of this Los Angeles jewel. As always… Love, your posts here, Julia!

I'm so glad. I'm thinking about my favorite places around town.
Julia! One of the GREAT places! Thank you!
The Oppenheimer doc is a good one. Complex stuff. Thanks for your time and attention. Good stuff.

Love(d) Phil Hartman!!!
Me too. I miss him so much.
Me too. I remember feeling as if I’d known him when he died.
Such great news that you came through the storm unscathed. Three cheers!!

Coincidently do you know who is the Patron saint of Nudity and or Nudism or Naturism?.
I do not!
Loved your statements to the effect that we will end in our own La Brea Tar Pits
It's true. I figure if we are the only animal that can contemplate and understand death we may as well go for it and really contemplate it!
Make your life simple and do the hard thing. Maybe you're a stoic.

Yes, I would. Will you tell me your email so I can email you about it?
Yes, my email is sjason212@gmail.com
These walks are lovely :) Thank you for doing them. Please visit all the National Parks next.
Hemant! HAHA. But, I actually want to visit every National Park! What an idea.

Love the epitaph! In the unlikely event that I outlive you, I’d definitely like to see it.
Well, you'd have to go to Spokane. And thanks for liking it. xoxo
I spend a lot of time in Spokane and have a history with St. Augustine's and that whole neighborhood.
And now you’ve got me thinking about mine.

Marvelous. Graveyard humor is a blessing.
