Oh your glee at this experience reminds me of visiting Tor House in Carmel-by-the-Sea CA-- the home of poet Robinson Jeffers. Such a personal experience that seemed to transcend time. Our tour guide read selections of his work related to the house and grounds are we walked- including a poem written as he was approaching death.. while we sat on the bed where he died. Amazing.
I think that “Summer” is on audible for free with subscription. It was in my library and I had not listened to it until yesterday. Love the tour. Thank you!
Thank you, thank you Julia, for this enchanting episode and showing us the remarkable home of Edith Wharton- what a joy! You are the very best person to guide us because your love for Wharton is like accompanying chamber music! ❤️⭐️❤️
I love your Saturday Substack, and this is one of the best at one of my favorite writers’ home. It makes me want to pay another visit. More tours, please!
Holly! Because if you I filmed myself at Herman Melville’s place! Stay tuned. And thanks for the pronunciation on Hermoine Lee! I didn’t know that. God, I’ve said her name so many times the wrong way. But anyway, now I know 😍🥰
Charming tour. I loved the restraint/unrequited emotion in Ethan Frome. I read it because one of the characters in Greg Berlanti’s Everwood raved about it. And I have unrequited love for Mr. Berlanti.
Love this. We had a home in Great Barrington for 10 years and never went to the Mount. I remember it was closed for renovations. Will have to visit. Hubby and I talk about retiring in the Berkshires. It’s a great area. ❤️
LOVE this one!
I know what road trip my daughter and I will be taking when I go visit her on the east coast this fall. Oh, Edith! Oh, Julia!

Lovely! She wrote from bed and threw the pages on the floor - it’s just not the same, throwing your iPad on the floor 💚 Rereading House of Mirth

You are fantastic - and I caught myself doing faces every time you mention "husband" :D
Shut the door, Julia! You did this Substack from Edith's place?! How fun was that? Thank you for the tour and tidbits.

It’s Her-my-a-knee Lee.
