Julia... I've been having a difficult time lately. Nothing serious, it will get better. But I seem to find myself anticipating your Substack feeds every Saturday because I know that I always feel uplifted after watching them. So, thank you so much. Really... thank you!
I've said this before on here, but it bears repeating. Letting Go of God was very important in my evolution to atheism. I'm sure I'm not alone in this. I, for one, am very grateful you took religion so seriously and in a very funny way.
I like what you said about your mother asking why you have to take Catholocism so seriously. After four years at conservative christian Wheaton College, I went hard in the other direction: fuck religion - I'm an atheist. No middle ground for me! A couple of years later I asked a coworker if he believed in god and his answer amazed me: "Yeah, sure, whatever". I had never encountered levity about an issue that had always been serious as a heart attack for me.
BRAVA! Your intro to Good Morning at the Mann Theater was exceptional, your insights and notes were spot on, and YES you are so very right to champion Ozu!! Sorry for stopping you as you made your way out of the museum with my ramblings, but my friends, husband and I were gushing with glee about the film... so I became impulsive to thank you. I love your Substack; and yes please: Senator Adam Schiff. ❤️
I, for one, I'm not sorry for your "Let Go of God" books and movies. Many people, especially celebrities, do not speak up due to losing their fan base or livelihood. So I appreciate that you spoke up because it has helped me.
I’m still a big fan of “Letting Go of God,” sensitivity to religious “culture” notwithstanding. I’ve mentioned it often in my philosophy classes. It’s brilliant, and in my opinion heralds a superior culture of humanist naturalism. And speaking of nature...
My daughter is an aspiring comic living in LA, I’ve asked her to say hello if she ever runs into you at the arboretum or elsewhere. She’s very funny, maybe you can offer a word of encouragement.
We just visited the Moore-Turner Heritage Garden, between Marycliff and Corbin Arts Center. Some historical association members were in the garden today with 1912 original photos, including a gorgeous mansion built in the 1890’s and torn down in the 1940s, on the site that is now a parking lot between the two buildings. It sounds like the now-Heritage Garden was probably just overgrown, vacant land in the 1970s.
I really enjoy these little slices of your life, for someone like me on a little island, it’s all so exotic 😁The blue body suit is fab, chin up shoulders back, you’ll be grand 😁
I’m not sure, you may be addicted to the social thing now, “I can stop any time I want…” I’ve heard that before 🤣
IMovie skills improving 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 (you can contact me through the website link on my Substack profile if you wanted some advanced tips - volume low at the end btw)
Nia Vardalos is fierce, love her work. It’s always great to hear that people one admires are nice people, the conversations must be fascinating at these lunches you go to.
I think we need to look into having you introduce more movies at the Academy!! ♥️
Blue onesie is amazing.

I was going to write the same. I’ve been an unbeliever since my teens. Julia’s evolution away from the church was a powerful statement to me.
Julia! These videos are my little fiesta on the weekends! I adore them, and I adore you.

We're fortunate to have three terrific candidates for Senate. Lee, Porter, and Schiff. I'm in the Schiff camp.

Great speech!
Looking forward to next week.
PS Katie Porter… you need more women in the senate. #justsaying 😇
I love Laura Kightlinger too. Can't wait to hear the Hartman tribute. Love the graphics you put on your video.
BTW, I emailed you about the "Flip Your Wig" PSA for WGA and SAG
