I went down the Jane Eyre adaptation rabbit hole some years ago and it was super delightful. I ran out of steam eventually, but I'd restart in solidarity with your project. I will be thrilled if you can track down the rare ones. I liked the 1973 BBC one with Sorcha Cusack and Michael Jayston. As Wikipedia says, "much of the dialogue is taken directly from the original novel." Also, I love your reflections on fame. Glad I subscribed!
Julia Sweeney, thank you especially for this one. After the pandemic I left my church when I get a call from a member telling me how important it is for me to give my appropriate amount of money soon, because I’m way behind. I’m thinking thinking thinking why did that come out of her mouth first asking me instead of how was I getting along since my husband died, or my amazingly wonderful stepdaughter who lost her life. Money or else. This opened my mind and allowed me to be myself. I find here lovely things, interesting things, thinking and feeling things that are those things that came to me about life from life. From life.
I think Mulan will love the clippings, maybe so will you one day. Maybe you should just look through them together and you can tell her all the stories behind the clippings, then come on here and tell us the best ones 😁
Loved the song, didn’t think much of the cathedral, but then we know how to build an impressive cathedral in Europe 🤣
Julia, it was good to hear about your relationship with fame. I don't have anywhere near the levels of recognizability that you have, but it's MORE than enough for my taste. I've been made to feel uncomfortable plenty of times, to the point where going out isn't nearly as much fun as it might otherwise be. Talk about doubling down on my introverted nature!
Also: it is fair to say that I let go of "god" some 30 years ago myself, and these days my "true north" is whether or not it's falsifiable, and with a preponderance of evidence supporting it. If those conditions aren't met, I don't believe it, period. Easy peasy!
Who will want the clippings? Anyone in your family who gets interested in genealogy, especially future generations. Those kinds of documents are so good to have when trying to learn about names on the family tree.
Public transit is great! So much more relaxing than driving, usually.
I saw MIDDLEMARCH on the shelf there. It's long been on my to-read list, though I've been hesitating because I know it's long. Is it worth reading?
This was so fun. Now I want to read Jane Eyre. Love that you took public transport. The LA trains look exactly like the NY subway cars! Beautiful church. I’m still humming the song— and I’m a believer. Hehehe. Have you ever been to Wilshire Boulevard Temple? If not it’s worth a trip and a video tour.
Fantastic song from Jill at the end, but I also loved the way you coordinated the music to the other visuals. I got a kick out of your book "Rights of Man" on display. I have that book on display as well. AND, the book is very near to the early 1900s typewriter on display! My typewriter has a letter to me from Andy Rooney. In the 1997 letter, Mr. Rooney informs me that he cannot attend the June 7th and 8th Thomas Paine Weekend events in Philadelphia. I remember how disappointment I was that he could not attend, but countered by pure joy at having received an old-fashion typed letter from ANDY ROONEY.
YES on Jane Eyre and LA public transit! The best way to get around the city and often the fastest all things considered if you stay in your quadrant (East/West/Valley/Harbor)

You + Sobule -- sublime!
I’m so bummed that we missed you on Friday night but love that you were there! ♥️

I like your comprehensive approach to Jane Eyre. I do a less elaborate study of some Dickens novels/films.
